FAQ
Why does take-home pay fall late in the year?
Withholding is cumulative: once year-to-date taxable income passes ¥36,000, ¥144,000 and so on, the higher rate applies, so later months are taxed more. The annual total doesn't change.
What are the usual employee contribution rates?
Typically pension 8%, medical 2%, unemployment 0.5% and housing fund 5–12%. Employers pay injury and maternity insurance.
